Before obtaining her Sir Speedy franchise, Barrie Graves had experience owning and managing a small business. With that experience, she decided to open the doors of Sir Speedy-Downtown Tampa. Barrie believes that the reason for continued business success is directly related to the pride that taken in her operation’s work.

Barrie believes that the reason for continued business success is directly related to the pride that taken in her operation’s work. Quality has always been a must for anything produced. But, the internal process toward producing a quality job was complicated, expensive and a long process.

Platemaking bottleneck
Barrie looked to her right hand person, Gatey Kelly, for ideas on improving their internal business. The platemaking process stood out like a sore thumb. Not only was it costly. It was also extremely time consuming. Prior to computer-to-plate, they had to deal with all kinds of customer files using hard copies, camera, silver master plates, outsourced film and metal plates.

The Pressman Speaks
Their lead pressman, Jay Addington, continued to create quality work, but many times he would redo jobs numerous times because of the limitations of the plates and process.

He needed a device that would get work to him in a timely manner and ready for press. Jay stated, “I had used polyester plates before, but I didn’t like them because they scratched easily and had to manually punch the plates.” The PlateStream was presented as a solution for the most demanding metal platemaking. Would it meet his expectations in the pressroom?

“Jay is an excellent press operator and a
real perfectionist,” Barrie explained. “He was the individual whom the PlateStream SC had to please the most and it continues to pass his quality standards with flying colors!” Jay is impressed across the board with the PlateStream. “The quality of the halftones is exceptional,” expressed Jay. “I used to get discouraged by how dots appeared when I created plates with the camera.... Now the plates come out crisp and clear!” He also was pleased with the thicker polyester material, integrated punch option and service package. The PlateStream SC passed the test!

Printware Exceeds Expectations
The pressman wasn’t the only one pleased with the PlateStream.“Our business needed a more sophisticated, digital plate making process that created timely, inexpensive, quality output...
