Before obtaining her Sir Speedy franchise, Barrie Graves had experience owning and managing a small business. With that experience, she decided to open the doors of Sir Speedy-Downtown Tampa. Barrie believes that the reason for continued business success is directly related to the pride that taken in her operation’s work. Quality has always been a must for anything produced. But, the internal process toward producing a quality job was complicated, expensive and a long process.
Platemaking bottleneck
Barrie looked to her right hand person, Gatey Kelly, for ideas on improving their internal business. The platemaking process stood out like a sore thumb. Not only was it costly. It was also extremely time consuming. Prior to computer-to-plate, they had to deal with all kinds of customer files using hard copies, camera, silver master plates, outsourced film and metal plates.
The Pressman Speaks
Their lead pressman, Jay Addington, continued to create quality work, but many times he would redo jobs numerous times because of the limitations of the plates and process.
